Zone Hockey Sessions

Adults and children with learning difficulties in East Cambridgeshire have been playing Zone Hockey at Ely Hockey Club.

The game is a version of hockey especially designed to be more inclusive. The equipment and rules are slightly different to the traditional game but the game aims to build up hockey skills, fitness and team spirit.

Thanks to Gemma V. and Hannah S. for doing the sessions which have been running since 12th May between 6pm and 7pm at the Club. After the summer break we will be restarting on September 15th.

Annette Fontaine, Sports Inclusion Officer for East Cambridgeshire and Fenland District Councils, said: "The new sessions are specifically designed to help those who learning difficulties get involved in sport. Zone Hockey is a great way to do this and it also encourages social skills and exercise.

"We initially organised just four sessions just to find out the level of interest but we are really keen to get as many people playing as possible. The players enjoyed it so much that we are continuing after the summer holidays"

If anybody would like to come and help, or you know somebody with learning difficulties who would like to play then either contact Trevor, or just come down.

Loughborough Mixed 7s Hockey Tournament

We are the champions....

Ely Mixed team produced their greatest ever performance at a tournament by becoming champions at Loughborough. After scraping their way through to the top knockout stage. Ely passed through the quarter-final stage with a golden goal, beat Nottingham in the semi-final on penalty flicks, and scored another golden goal in the final! A nice bit of well deserved silverware to put in the clubhouse :-)
